I travelled by bus from Bundaberg up to Rockhampton.  Its a fairly good sized city, and the 'Beef Capital of Australia'.  Lots of businesses have cattle symbols or use something like 'moo' or 'bull' in their names.  We got in pretty late in the evening, and didnt have a place to stay yet.  Luckily, there were a couple shuttles to hostels at the bus stop, and the Ascot Hotel had beds open.

The lady that picked us up was maybe the friendliest person I've ever met.  Two minutes after getting in the van she was offering to give rides to the Croc Farm or some nearby caves the next day.  The room wasnt big, but it was certainly an improvement over Bundaberg.  And the hotel itself is located over a restaurant called 'Ascot Stonegrill'.  They serve mostly steaks, and they come pretty much raw, on a really hot stone.  Then you just cut off bite-sized pieces, turn them on the stone, and cook it to your own taste.  It was actually a very cool way to have dinner.  And the steak was great!

The next day we were going to catch a bus to the City Botanic Gardens and Zoo, but we either missed it, or it never came.  So we just decided to walk it.  Probably about 3 km there, and we got to see a lot more of the city.  The gardens were nice.  Very peaceful, with all kinds of different trees and bushes.  I think if you go during the season when fruits are growing, you can pick them and eat them as you walk.  But Im not sure on that.  The zoo was a bit of a dissapointment.  A lot of exhibits were closed, and most of the animals werent really moving much.  But it was all free, so I cant complain too much.

We ended up catching the bus back, and just hung around the hotel for the evening.
