Spending last night in a hotel was fantastic! First shower I had in almost a week. After having breakfast at the hotel, we drove out to Devils Tower. Its a huge rock rising out of the middle of Wyoming. We took a 1.3 mile walk around the base. It looks mostly the same all around, but its still really impressive. And there were people climbing it while we were hiking. They said theres a steer skull at the top and that no one knows how it got there. I was thinking that I should take some climbing lessons and then come back and try it myself. When we got back to the visitors centre, there was a ranger showing the different equipment people use to climb. It was a pretty interesting talk.
From Devils Tower, we headed south on 59, through Douglas and Guernsey. There wasnt a whole lot to see as we were driving. The land wasnt exactly flat, but there just wasnt much goin on. Eventually we came to Guernsey State Park, where we decided to camp for the night. Theres a huge lake in the park, and a crazy spillway to drain it. The whitewater there was huge. I was really glad that I wouldnt be going on anything like that. The area that we camped in had signs warning to be on the lookout for flash floods, so I was kinda worried about that all night. But we didnt get any rain, so no worries. Just had some chicken, bean, and rice burritos, read a little, and called it a night.
Where I stayed:
Guernsey State Park
