Decided to have a lox-key day before our move to Beirut tomorrow. Woke up late...
At 1.30pm, one of Diana's students took us to an NGO where his sister works. The NGO was located in one of the less developed parts of the city. Mostly, they concentrate on preparing the poor for the job market, thereby hoping to help them escape poverty through employment. Their activities range from giving scholarships to providing cheap kindergarde services. The Highly Competent Sister, 35, told us that they were thinking about opening branches in cities other than Amman. This NGO is another prime example that differentiates Jordan from most of its neighbours. I very much doubt that such efficient NGOs could exist in Syria.
Had lunch/dinner at KFC. My mouth had been watering every time we would drive by it. Had a chicken burger meal for about $6. The menu was a bit different from the American one: biscuit had been replaced by buns, the classic hot wings menu had been removed and there was no sweet corn on the cob.
After finishing off our fried chicken, went to Blue Fig for deserts and coffee. The New York cheesecake was really good. Wrapping up Amman at the cool place that I had started it was an awesome idea.
