Today was a long 12 hour day and after we looked at the map felt as though we had traveled across half of Finland.

With Kerttu & Reijo we visited Kovero Heritage Farm situated in the Seitseminen National Park and is now owned by the Finnish Forest & Park Service. This was a tenant farm established in 1859  when  farmers rented the farm from the state and by the 1930's the state owned farms had become independent estates.  This Kovero farm has been restored and refurnished to the 1930's era to preserve the lifestyle of a tenant farmer.
Kovero Farm was a farm  rented from the state (a croft)  by several "crofters" during its history between 1859 and 1930's . The first tenant farmer was Matti Juhanpoika ( = Juha's son) and 20 years later in 1878,  is was rented by Matti Esiannpoika who took on the house name "Kovero"  as his family name. In 1915 there were 4500 state owned tenant farms in Finland and a few decades later nearly all of them became independently owned as did this Kovero farm . The son of Matti Kovero  bought the farm in 1931 with ownership until 1970 when the estate once again became state owned.

The photos will speak for themselves and this all brought out that each country has its own history which is  interesting to explore in more depth. It  has always  interested me how they took on the name of the house in which they lived and apparently if they rented elsewhere they could change the family name which becomes very confusing when researching family ancestry. The history was so interesting I could have spent much more time  exploring  this place and the Seitseminen National Park in which this was situated. But we have a lot to see and do..... this was a 12 hour day.....
