Weather: Sunny Start Temp 15.5C End Temp 25C
I congratulated myself as I left Hannibal @ 8:30 the earliest time yet. Then I had to stop a few miles down the road to put more clothes was cold! the route I had mapped for today took me over part of the Ozarks mountains, although not very high it was adventurous with the hils and curves. As I got closer to St Louis the land became a river valley again.
The plan was to arrive on the riverfront in St Louis before 12 noon and take a bus tour of St Louis which I did. The bus tour lasted 1 1/2 hrs and showed a lot of the attractions/museums/history etc and was good value for the money. A lot of the museums, attractions and the Zoo are free of charge to get in. If one was to come to St Louis to sightsee one would need at least a week. After I went over to see the Gateway Arch but did not go up to the top because of the crowds. I did check out their Western Expansion Exhibit which I wish there was more of. I then took a walk around downtown and then off to the Cathedral Basilica of St Louis. The outside of the church was nice a modern church built in the old style but the inside was amazing!! I have never been in a church so beautiful. Most of the Biblical scenes, the saints and heavenly figures were not painted on the walls and ceilings they were each done as a mosaics. The interior of the church was an art gallery. The marble pillars, statues, the dome ceilings, the chapels are all works of art and I for one would want to come back and spend time studying the art instead of a quick visit as a tourist. As it was a Saturday I also took the opportunity and attended Mass.
Tomorrow back to the Great River Road
