I arrived around 1 pm and went stright to the Motel chain I usually stayed at and they had a vacancy. So I gave my Visa # etc. and received a guaranteed booking but was told the room would not be ready until 3:30 which was OK with me because I was going to the Arches National Park so I'd go now and return for the room after
. The Arches was magnificent as you can see from the photo's. I made several short hikes to see particular sights and the last one I did started nice and flat and then turned a corner and went stright uphill, I was huffing and puffing atopping for a minute several times. All I could think about is that I have to add the treadmill to my exercise routine for next year. The ride around the park was a sedate 45 mph which allowed me to view the sights. On a motorcycle you can see 180 degrees without seeing the car roof, hood etc. It is a fantastic was to sightsee.
After the trip and leaving my luggage at the motel I headed to get food!! It was 7pm and I had not eaten since 10am so I was hungry. When I got to the restaurant I had decided to go to there was another motorcycle tourer that had just pulled. So I introduced myself and we ended up having supper together swapping travel tales. When I got back to the motel I treated myself to 1/2 hour in the hot tub :)
A great day. Now to plan tomorrow as I am staying here another night.
The ride from Salt Lake City to Moab was interesting to say the least. First the highway cut accross the mountains and then down a valley to Moab. My bike has a handy dandy little computer that among other things tells me what the outside temperature is...Even though I had attached the insulation layer inside my bike jacket I was getting cold...the temperature when I looked at it was 10.5c so I stopped and put on my fleece jacket..the temperature went down to 9c and that is without the windchill of going 120 kpm. Thank heavens the temperature was 27c when I got to Moab but arrived a little overdressed :) but at least I was warm.
