After my crazy Livingston day I hopped on a boat and headed for a self described bed and breakfast but more of an eco-lodge type place called Finca Tatin www.fincatatin.centramerica.com . Finca Tatin is set on an inlet of the Rio Dulce. Hammocks abound, fabulous food and absolute tranquility. This was the first time I got into a bathing suite since arriving in Guatemala:) There is also, Ak´Tenamit www.aktenamit.org, a fabulous NGO that fits all my requirements of "a good NGO". The Q´eqchi community heads it up and on top of that they have a full on serious commitment to gender equity. It was only a 20 minute hike from Finca Tatin, thus, after a little jaunt in the orchid laden jungle I met two teen aged girls who asked if I wanted to see there schools. Ya, for sure and they gave me a grand tour of the grounds. I will be heading there in the future to volunteer. They also really need doctors, nurses, dentists etc to volunteer. After a few days I headed out to Flores and that is when everything started to get a little crazy!!!
