Santiago is crazy!! There is Maximon (Ma-chi-mon), the evil Mayan deity that looks strangely like a big stuffed dummy. He is paraded about the week before Easter. Also a truly tough crowd of indigenous folk who kicked out the military before any other village in Guatemala during the civil war and a boy following me around saying in English "that ice cream is for me!?" I was eating ice cream.
Santa Cruz is all about lounging 20 somethings in bikinis and such
San Marcos where the yoga and meditation are so strong you can feel the hummmm of "ommmm" under your feet
Panajachel has rows and rows and rows of stall all with the same stuff. Side glance at one and youŽll have not one but two girls wrapping skirts around you as youŽre leaving the stall.
San Antonio is this little town where I was for a minute. The women were clearly pissed when you didn't buy anything but they had a pretty church and flowers.
San Juan I only had a quick glimpse at as I had missed my group heading for a hike and was zipping towards them in a tuktuk Once I caught up to them though we hiked the very steep "Indian Nose" with fabulous views.
Boys and Tuktuks: My hiking group had 1/2 an hour on me and I still caught up to them, just an example of true tuktuk zippiness. Also, the other night, a boy as young as 8 pulled over asking me if I needed a taxi (tuktuk) as I said no he continued to rapidly weave down the road.
