Well, I decided I would take it easy before my flight and get a nice big meal.  Before I even finished it I started feeling really nauseated.  This only got progressively worse and by the time I got on the putput airplane from Tucson to Los Angeles I had full blown burping disease and was super nauseous as well as achy.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with my Burping Disease it is not simply burping.  It is more of a big bloated belly with pockies that will only go away if I just stop moving.  Seeing that getting to Guatemala requires constant movement you see where this is going.  Got some Tylenol in Los Angeles and started to feel a little better.

Outside of my digestive issues, which I believe was a small bout of food poisoning acquired in Los Estados Unidos, I found the experience in the Los Angeles air terminal interesting.  It was the first time in the United States that I experienced the announcements in Spanish before English.  Sometimes the Spanish ones were much longer and I thought that either it takes much longer to explain things in Spanish OR more likely I just didnīt need the information.  I was only one of a handful of white folk.  I think it is healthy to have ones privileged bubble popped by being in the "minority" and not understaning everything going on.  There are things you take for granted and no matter how aware you try to be there will always be the unexpected.  The plane ride to Guatemala was uneventful except for the man I had to climb over several times to get to the bathroom (remember the indigestion).  So off to Guatemala with belly ache, burps and all.

sounds like the LAX was a good intro into Latin America . . . i appreciate your perspective on the 'minority' view, you are very open minded, which is a must if you are going to travel outside your comfort zone, aka the USofA . . . great post!
