Friday night and Saturday night we did our first two shows. The venue in Indianapolis (Noblesville actually) is small and has campsites. We arrived the first day around noon and set the tables up. Then we sat for a couple of hours while soundcheck and other setup happened around us. With no volunteers it was Josh (tour lead), Dan (I met Dan last year at DMB and interviewed with him), Haley (the other intern at the moment), and I to run the ONE tent.
We went through a bit or role playing which I don't like too much. Then we floated in front of the doors getting signatures and selling ONE wristbands for a dollar. The first show went ok, but I knew I needed to work on a lot. I was enlightened by one young DMB fan that "if faggots would just stop fucking each other we wouldn't have AIDS." hmmmm, didn't know that. Those are the people you just walk away from.
Yesterday we drove about six hours and now we're in the Marriott Jail...excuse me...Marriott Hotel in the middle of nowhere. We're right next to the GM plant. With all of the detours on the way here we got a little lost, in the process getting on 8 Mile Rd. As in the Eminem movie 8 Mile. Not something I ever really wanted to be on.
So today (Monday) we have off until the show tomorrow. Then it's on to Columbus, OH on Wed., Thurs. we have off and then two shows in Pennsylvania where I'm hoping I can find some Civil War sites to visit while we're in the area.
(Edit: I forgot to add the story about the 15 year old girls. I'm actually guessing their age. Three girls came up to the tent as Josh, Dan, and I were there and started signing the ONE Declaration. As they did this, one was constantly licking her hand. The second girl while writing looked up at Josh with these tripped out eyes and said, "I can't feel my hand" and started laughing. Kids on ecstacy...always good to see.)

The second night I did a lot better. I walked around the venue a bit and caught a few songs of the DMB set. At the night there's a mad rush to leave the venue and we push the bracelets to make money and pay for the cost of what we're doing. I had sold about 90 so far (the last DMB tour apparently I was the highest seller in East Troy with about 120). So I went out and just started selling. Once everything was counted, I had sold 114 bracelets in about an hour. Over 200 for the night is amazing. We packed everything up and headed out of the venue when Dan said "There's something wrong with the car." I could feel it too. Then Dan noticed we were out of gas. It was kind of funny, but we had to jump out and push the car off the road before a bunch of drunk DMB fans hit us. We sat in the car until Josh showed up in the Uplander (ugly minivan SUV thing) with some gas. Then we headed into Indy to see Neil, a friend of Dan's at some dive bar with a bunch of metalheads. We had a really good time and got back around 4am.Yesterday we drove about six hours and now we're in the Marriott Jail...excuse me...Marriott Hotel in the middle of nowhere.
