Hundreds of k's later I'm in Greymouth. I stopped in Te Anau a few nights back to say my goodbyes and also got two Christmas cards because IEP forgot to cut off my mail.
I headed to Queenstown for what I thought would be about three days, but ended up being one. Avishay, an Israeli guy told me things I'd never want to experience. He just finished his service in the IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) and there is nothing pretty about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I headed out to Winnie's with Homer, another Israeli guy, and Rodjewofasdkfnjhgfd, a guy from the Netherlands. Homer and I weren't sure what his name was so we just made random sounds. Homer=cool, Roddslfajghrhea=strange. I also ran into Jenny, Emma, and Swedish Girl #3 again and talked to them for a bit. I had an ok time, but not like the first in Qtown. Of course Ferg's was on the list of things to do and I made sure I had one last Ferg w/cheese before I left.
Yesterday I went through Wanaka to get to Haast. I stopped by the Warbirds museum to see the WWII era planes they had. It's nothing compared to EAA, but it was nice to see. The lakes between Wanaka and Haast are an awesome green/blue color in the sun. Yesterday was what everyone describes as a NZ summer and today is just non stop rain on the West Coast. The backpacker's at Haast was nice, but there is nothing to do in Haast.
Today I've driven about 400 k's. I skipped Fox and Franz Josef glaciers because I don't have a camera and the weather is terrible. Lake Matheson offers an amazing view on a clear day, but nothing is clear today. I'm heading up to Punakaiki Beach to stay tonight. Hopefully the weather is clear tomorrow and I can head to Nelson or Golden Bay to look for work and settle down again.
