Today I'm back in Nairobi after a 5 day safari in Kenya. I chose to do mine in the Samburu area rather than the more popular Maasai Mara- and I was not disappointed. From Samburu we drove through the great Rift Valley and stopped to explore wildlife and birdlife in various lakes both fresh water and 'soda' lakes where flamingos feed. I'll post some photos of the experience. We had a phenomenal guide- Jeremiah- who used to work as a park ranger and spent time warding off poachers. He knew everything about the animals and birds and their habits. Had stories of watching pythons eating impalas whole, and he had a very keen eye for even the smallest little bird.

More that observing the scenery and wildlife, it was an interesting study in humankind. It's amazing to watch how people behave when they see certain animals- 'the big five' and how eaily they turn their backs on other magnificent beings- because they've seen them before. Seeing twelve vehicles chasing after a lion as he tried to skulk his way through the trees and hunt while everyone is elbowing each other to get the perfect photo is quite frustrating. The beauty of nature seems lost, but there I was in the midst of it all, elbows up with my camera poised too.

We spent a lot of time driving which I enjoyed, although bumpy and dusty, because the views and countryside were stunning. And everytime we passed through a village the children would run after the truck yelling 'sweet, sweet' with their hand outstretched wanting candy.

Now I have a brief stop in Nairobi to regroup- I head tomorrow to meet Mr. Okidi and begin my placement.

I trust you are all well. I am posting a few photos... it seems to take a while at this computer... so perhaps just a couple.

Much love-

PS.... I just tried posting some pics, but it didn't work... i'll try again next time, it's getting late. Cheers!
