So the best way to read this journal is to put on your old Woodie Guthrie record and rock out to "This land is my land, this land is your land" since it is so perfectly applicable here.
Although the end point would be scenic and wonderful, the day started off a little rough. Jen had an eye inflammation about a week ago which we got treated while in Spokane, WA. However, despite medication the problem got worse last night and we decided it best to get her to a doctor before leaving the populated areas.
We were at the eye doctor in Crescent City for about two hours, and while he was very nice, prescribed Jen dilating drops for her one eye to help ease the pain
Thankfully the Redwood Forest was only about 45 minutes south of Crescent City. We had a tent site waiting for us. This one is very nice, with no bugs or spiders! Yay!!! We set up camp and headed out onto nearby trails.
The Redwood Trees are unbelievable. You look up at them and can get vertigo. One tree in particular (which is in the pictures section) was 304 feet tall, 22 feet in diameter and 1500 years old. FIFTEEN HUNDRED YEARS OLD. That tree started growing only a decade after the fall of Rome!
We continued on some other trails, marveling at the size and age of these wonders before heading back, making dinner and deciding to watch a movie (that's right, even in the middle of a forest with no electricity we still watch movies!)
Tomorrow we head out for an incredibly long drive to San Francisco (prob about 8 hours away to our South) Talk to you all then!!
