My big, and only, accomplishment today was visiting Wat Pho, a Buddhist temple known for the reclining Buddha statue that measures 50 feet tall and more than 140 feet long.
Since I would be visiting the temple, I dressed with my knees and shoulders covered which was less than desirable attire in the 90 degree temps. And no I am not complaining about the heat, but dang was I hot and sweaty! No one wants to be glistening more than the shiny, golden Buddha in a photo.
The so-called 20 minute walk to the temple, which was more like an hour with my "I have no idea where I'm going, but don't need to look at a map I'm sure it is right up this way" route took a lot out of me.
I had my bearings on the way back and headed to Joy Luck Club for lunch which went something like this:
Restaurant Lady: You eat?
Me: Yes! :)
Restaurant Lady: No cooking today.
Me: Okay :(
Luckily, last night I discovered lots of places with vegetarian options, and despite my momentary sad face, I was settled into some air conditioning with a pomegranate tea and a plate of pad see ew in no time.
The rest of the day consisted of a lot of sitting and napping. Followed by some more food and a little shopping on Khao San. Which, actually I should say, was also quite an accomplishment. I discovered last night that I didn't bring any bottoms to sleep in, and as much as people want to see my cute booty, I decided to invest $5 in these comfy pants that are all the rage here. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll have an opportunity to see them in future pics.
So I saw the reclining Buddha, tried the massaman curry for dinner and bought some cute pants. I think it was actually quite a successful day. But now off to bed. I have a big day of exploring ahead of me tomorrow ;)
