DON'T BREAK MY HEART, MY ACHY BREAKY HEART.
In order to make sure that I defo get my cards this time I have been advised by the Irish Embassy, who are extremely helpful by the way!, to check in to a business hotel with 24 hour reception and a good reputation and are reliable. So myself, Ryan and Evan checked in to a Novotel in Manaus! Thanks to daddy and his credit card! And it was luxury, gym, and swimming pool, which we actually never never used, cable tv, room service, which we never used and an all you can eat dinner buffet, that we did use, again, thanks daddy! The piranha soup was divine!
We meet some local Brazilian girls and guys in the bar and headed out
on the town with them. 7 of us piled into a little Corsa like car,
with 6 foot 6" tall Evan folding himself in half and riding in the boot
and the rest of us sat on laps and the floor, this isnīt unusual in
South America! We finally make it to a place with the word SALOON hung
above the doorway, I should have clicked it then, or at least when I
noticed that the doors we actually swing shutter doors and the whole
building was made of pale slatted wood, and I defiantly should have
clicked things when the bouncers were wearing cowboy boots but oh no,
blind drunk Melanie didnīt click anything until she paid her entrance
fee and was inside the Saloon surround by denim cut offs and cowboy
hats being waved about above heads, I was in a country and western line
dancing club!!!! I tried to leave, well when I say leave I mean got
blind drunk to block out the sea of blue jeans and awful hill billy
Brazilian music, but it was as if an invisible lasso had me by the waist
and was pulling me up on to the nearest table to grapevine with the
best of them!! Within 20mins I had a cowboy hat on my head and was
waving it around like the rodeo star I thought I was! Thankfully, Evan
came over to rescue me, by rescue me I mean get up on the table and
make an ass of himself with me, he was waving that god damn cowboy hat
around like a pro! (Closet Billy Ray Cyrus fan me thinks!)
OK, so now for the juicy bit! I pulled! I finally scored! I snogged one of the boys how came out with me! Eduardo, a 22 year old Lawyer from Sao Paulo, granted I don't remember doing this at all Evan had to tell me the next day! But woo hoo, I scored, this never happens to me, have no idea why not, wish it would happen to me a lot more! Well, ok it did, two nights later, and I have to admit I did get more than, a lot more than a snog this time, and in his hotel room!! YES!! Bring it on!! But, as I lack sex etiquette and social sex skills, and I have never had a one night stand before, I didn't really know what to do after we had, you know, made the beast with two backs!! And, whilst he was in the shower I legged it back to my room!! I ran so fast out of there that I forgot my shoes! Shamefully I had to go back the next morning to collect them and apologize for my behavior! Scarlet!
Finally, nearly 2 months after my cards got stolen my new ones arrived
and we hit the road again in true Melanie style. There are two roads
out of Manaus, the right one and the wrong one, which one do you think
we took? You should know my travel tales enough to know we took the
wrong one and didnīt notice until we were 180km deep into the Amazon!
So we headed back the 4 hours we just came and started all over again!
We drove all night over the worst roads in the world, pot holes the
size of craters and in some cases whole sections of road missing! So,
after a long hard day of driving we pulled over and slept 3 in the van
in a petrol station. Comfy!!
Up at sunrise to drive through an Indian Reserve and some wonderful
scenery and into the last town before we hit Venezuela. Boa Vista the capital of the Brazilian state of Roraima.
