Well this week started off on a bum note, I stupidly left my camera and
watch in my room, on my bed and they were both stolen! I never once
suspected anybody from the room, as we are all good friends now, but I
was annoyed at them for bringing their friends and guests into the
room. Turns out a crazy Kiwi guy in the room next to us who was all
messed up on drugs stole them but before the police could get a chance
to talk to him about it he was kicked out of the hostel for spiking
drinks! So I've no camera now. I am gutted! It's like a part of my body
is missing! I am lost without it! Insurance won't pay out either cause
I have no receipts or evidence of owning the camera or watch! It's
crazy!
However the week did get better as my friend Jorge from Argentina
cooked an amazing vegetarian meal for me and his work mates, although
his work mates were from Colorado and it just reminded me that I should
be there and not in a crappy hostel where people steal stuff!!
The weekend was full of tango lessons and Milonga's ( traditional
Argentinean Dance Nights where people tango the night away)!! It was
great, tango has to be one of the hardest but amazing dances to learn!
I am hooked! I am also not very good at it and I am determined to get
better so that is why I am going to so many lessons!
It was my birthday
on Sunday, but I didn't tell anybody here, I find it awkward and weird
celebrating stuff like that with strangers like they are being forced
to celebrate something they don't really care about. But, bless them,
the receptionist found out and put a poster on the wall saying happy
birthday, I got a free buffet breakfast and four hours of Internet, the
greatest gift of all to travelers!!! My room mates also bought loads
of nice fresh food and made a picnic, but true Melanie style it started
to rain and we had to eat it in the grotty kitchen! But it was such a
lovely thought and gesture!
That night myself and the Irish boys Niall and Gavin went to the cinema
to see the new Robert Redford & Tom Cruise movie Lions for Lambs.
It was the worst film I have ever seen! Full of crap and too much talk
and not enough answers or stimulation! I was nearly asleep 10 Min's in
to it! It is a lazy boring film, but for some reasons the boys liked
it, oh well, to each their own!!
The week didn't end too well either. My 80GB video iPod was stolen! I
am devastated!! It had over 10500 of my songs on it and I have no way
of getting them back as I have no computer or music with me. I am at a
loss for words to explain how I feel about all of this. I have never
had anything stolen from me before and in the space of a week I have
had the only 3 possessions that I own taken. I don't understand why
someone would do this to another person! I cannot wait to get out of
here now and put this whole bloody country behind me. I am gutted!
Thankfully I don't have to wait too long to leave. My travel plans have
taken on a new level. I am now going to Melbourne Australia for
Christmas. I am flying there on Wednesday 19Th December with my mate
Gavin. So that means I will be having Christmas on the beach! How mad
is that? I can't get my head around it! I will also be in Australia for
New Years, but as of yet I don't know where, so if anybody is in Oz let
me know where and what your plans are and maybe we can meet up!!
I am
only in Oz for 4 weeks until Wednesday January 16Th and then I fly to
... wait for it ... NEW YORKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!! I am so
excited! It is my number one destination!! I have longed to go there for
years! I cannot believe it is finally happening! I will be in New York
for 6 nights, so I need tips, advice, places to see and do and stay and
if anybody is in New York from Jan 16Th to 22Nd let me know!!! AHHHHH!!
New York, New York!! Here I come!!
So the big step is after New York, on Jan 22Nd I board another plane
and on Jan 23rd I land in ... RIO BRAZIL!!!! I am going to Carnaval!! I
am going to travel up to Salvador da Bahia for the biggest party in the
world!! I am going by myself and I don't speak a word of Portuguese and
I am a gringo!!! God knows what stories, scrapes and tales my emails
will contain when I get there! I got a one way ticket, I don't plan on
coming back for a very long time!
Here's hoping my next adventure is better than my New Zealand one!! xxx
