AND I WISH I WERE A CAMERA, I WISH IT ALL THE TIME, IT GIVES MY EYES A REASON, IT GIVES MY LIFE A RHYME
I got offered a job, in Keystone in Colorado! I am going to be working there in November! A winter season in the Rocky Mountains! It's going to be amazing! I can't wait! I'm so excited! Now I just have to have an interview in the American Embassy to see if they will give me a work visa! Here's hoping! Another week, another birthday! This time it was Blair who turned 21! Little baby! By 10pm he was drinking red wine straight from the bottle, by 10.30 he was going a two beer, beer bong and by 11pm, he was passed out in bed and I was on my way home! Good on you Blair! I also had another snowboarding lesson with Dave from Colorado! See, it's a sign that Colorado is going to be amazing! Cause I had the best lesson and day on the mountain ever! I was looking slick and cool and even tried some tricks and nose presses and Ollie's and Euro Carves! I couldn't do any of them but at least I was trying, which is something I would never have tried before! I was so pumped and stoked when I finished and, in fact, I still am! I can't wait to get to Colorado to the real snow! So some of you know that I use to take photographs of rock bands and gigs when I lived in England, if you didn't know, well now you do and you can check the photos out on my website www.melaniemay.com I really love photography and it is something that I would like to pursue professionally when I have enough money to get myself sorted with decent equipment! Anyone know where I can get an iMac Pro computer or Canon digital SLR on the cheap? Well when I got over here I emailed some people and companies and magazines telling them about myself and my love of photography. Well, Burton, yes BURTON the biggest and best snowboarding company in the world got in contact and asked me to cover the NZ Burton Open, one of the biggest events in the TTR World Cup Circuit! I was thrilled and this week it started! So I had spent the last month reading books and magazines on Snowboarding and Photography so that I at least looked like I knew what I was doing! So day one started off with a press confidence and photo shoot! I was so excited, I felt so professional and important and I got to ask questions to the number one male snowboarder in the world Mason Aguirre and Olympic Gold Medallist Kelly Clarke! I also got lots of free food and drink! I don't know which one I was more excited about!! That night I went to the premiere of the new Burton snowboard DVD and nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw that lots of it was filmed in Keystone where I am going to go and work! How cool!! The dvd inspired me so much that the next day I took another lesson and really stepped up my game and my riding and now I can fully ride switch / fakie! That's basically riding the opposite way than normal to you non-snow sports folk!! I was so happy and chuffed with myself! I can even do a 180 on the flat and little donuts on the slopes! Wednesday was the first proper day of the Burton Open and I was real nervous. I managed to get my friend Claire a media pass too and we both hitched up to the competition. It was the half pipe today and I spent all day lying on the snow trying to get the perfect shot! And I didn't do too bad! If I do say so myself! I got some really good shots, but I don't know if they are good enough to be used in a magazine or anything but we will see!
