Well..it's been a while since our last entry because while we are still in the UK, really, there is only panicking and preparation to get on with until the big day arrives. But still might be a good laugh to read so why not keep you all informed of our antics now?

Yesterday, we had to travel down to London at 7am with David and his sister in one car and my uncle and I in another car, bombing down the M40 to get to the Turkish Embassy for 10am. It's only open until 1:30pm so this was our only 'window of opportunity'. As David and I are getting married in Northern Cyprus, we had to first go to our solicitors to get a Statutory Declaration signed and stamped (a.k.a. Verification of our Identity) then we had to take these declarations, with our passports, birth certificates and 2 witnesses to the Embassy for more stamping and paperwork. Trying to find 2 witnesses mid-week was the hardest problem. Everyone's so busy with work or children so that proved a logistics challenge. The Embassy is housed in one of these beautiful Georgian houses in a big Square in London but where we had to go was the basement. It was like going down to the servants quarters. No love lost on the interior decoration! people were cramped onto small padded benches either side of a tiny hallway. A Turk came out, asked who was next and after we explained, he gave David and I, along with our 2 witnesses, some forms to complete on our laps, which we soon after handed to an English lady and she disappeared behind the locked hallway door, separating the public from the staff.

After about an hour's wait in silence in a grim basement corridor, we got our certificates stamped and our passports etc returned to us. All done. We could now get married! woohoo

Next stop was a bit of lunch in Soho then David's sister and I went to the dress shop because I had my first fitting for my wedding dress. I have never been married before so have no idea what to do, when, how, why etc so when I turned up Ida (mad seamstress) asked me where my wedding bra and shoes were!!??! luckily she is great fun so she jokily 'slapped' my wrists and insisted I bring them next fitting. How was I to know?! they never advised me to bring these over the phone. Apparently she will sew whatever bra I will wear on the day to the inside of my dress so it fits better and so I don't have to worry about loose straps etc. I wore some shop shoes with a very high heel and I couldn't walk! I was all over the place! I looked like a bride who'd had far too much to drink! I don't wear high heels at all but will wear small kitten heels on the day. I am over in seconds if I wear high heels.
