On our second last day, we started heading up north along the western coast of North Island. We stopped of on the way at the famou Waitomo limestone caves to check out some of the worlds greatest caves and glowworms.http://www.waitomo.com/ruakuri-cave.aspx
People come from all around the world to explore miles and miles of natural limestone caves. Only a small percentage are open to the general tourist public. Most require a caving accosiation pass and special safety equipment. The views and formations were spectacular. The cave could not be more tourist friendly as a ramp was even built to make it wheelchair accessible. From their we headed farther north and got to Auckland a beautiful clear day. We climbed to the top of One Tree Hill which offers views of both coasts of New Zealand, the pacific Ocean and and the Tasman Sea. After this we started farther north to get to 90 mile beach early the next day.
