Tuesday was time to hit the road. Our first trek of the trip was a one day up to see Glacier Martial.
The trip included a 2 hour slow walk up city streets and pathways to get to the base of the mountain. Then a 1.5 hour ascent up pathways and then a sandy hillside. Not very challenging but some parts were a bit steep and slippery.
Weather co-operated. It was mostly in the teens, and when the sun came out was quite warm.
When the sun went down and the wind started, it got quite chilly.
We go to the end of the trail, and had a great view of mountains all around us and the town well below us and then the beagle channel.
But there certainly wasn't anything glacial about it. There was some snow, and maybe if we had big winter boots and hiked though the snow we could get higher and see something that resembled a glacier, but to us it looked like spring snow.
Fun walk, nice views, not very glacial like though. :)
On the way down the wind really picked up, so much so that when big guts came, we had to sit down and huddle up to prevent it from blowing us down. Never experienced such strong winds. And it was picking up sand and small rocks. Even though it was blowing in our backs, it still hurt through the jacket and shirts we had on. a little dirty from the wind

Even through this there were some people trying to climb up, face first into this wind/sandstorm. Crazy Argentines J
We got to the bottom, enjoyed a hot chocolate/beer at the first place we found in Ushuaia that gives you an outside place to sit and look at mountains, and this place is 7 km out of town. well deserved break

Exhausted we headed back to town for some steaks and wine.
Before we got food, we hit the waterfront and saw one of the most amazing sunsets ever. You need to check out the pics to appreciate it.Right aligned photo tag: Ushuaia sunset

Over dinner we met a couple of fun Yankees and we chatted up about travels and headed out for a drink afterwards. The day did not end until 2 am. We slept like babies.
