Ursa and I just spent a few days down in Dubrovnik, Croatia. I was there with my family almost 25 years ago. We were on holiday, when my dad's heart failed him while playing soccer. He was 35 years old when he died. His name was Peter Dixon.
Going back there was my main reason for comming to Slovenia. I found what I think was the resort we stayed at in 1982. It had been shot up pretty bad during the war from 1992 to 1995. Kinda sad to see it looking like that. I just sat and looked out into the ocean for about 20 minutes and enjoyed the view. I watched the sunset and it was just like I remembered when I was 5. The next day I went to the soccar field that may or may not have been the one, but it doesnt matter, it felt right. I'm glad I went.
Dubrovnik is a cool little town. Everything is traditional and old looking like many European towns. I had some fun driving on the ocean road. The cops pulled me over for not having my headlights on. It was sunny, what was I thinking. Thats the law and a 300 kuna fine(about 25US). He let me off coz I'm a nice guy. A few hours later he flagged us down for a random licence check. When he realised it was us he laughed and we burned off. Dang cops. The drive there was cool. We went throught 3 countries (Slovenia, Croatia and dipped into Bosnia) on the way. We threw a few snow balls around crossing though the Plitvick Jezera National Park then into the sun on the ocean road into Dubrovnik. How fucking cool is that? The drivers here in EU are madness. I was crusing on 145km/h (limit is 130km/h, but everyone goes faster)and dudes were still passing me like I was putting along in the slow lane. I tried to keep up to two of them but when I maxed out at 162km/h I thought I better give our little Renault Twingo a rest. They were doing about 180km/h I guess....normal I'm told. I love this place.
Nice place. More thumbnails ...
