Koh Tao is full of people wanting to dive. Nice place too.
Day 1 I started my open water course today. Just me and an English chick called Katherin. Today was almost pure theory and kinda sucked. I had to swim 200 metres and floast for 10 minutes to prove that I wasn't totally useless. Costs like $350AUS including accomadation. Day 2 More theory, then on a boat with about 8 other chicks and me. Everyione went off in their groups and me and Katherin learnt how to not drown. Water clarity is pretty good, I'll take some pics tomorrow or the next day. Day 3 Did 2 - 12 metre dives today. Water clarity is good here. About 20 metres today. Fun
Day 4 Did 2 - 18 metre dives. First was good, but I was feeling a bit sick before the first one. So I felt shit for the entire dive, but it was still fun. I think something I ate is going to cause me rapid weight loss soon (hopefullt not). Tomorrow I start my avanced certification so I can night dive and go to 30 metres. Day 4 I was feeling totalluy crap yesterday due to dehydration. Dizzy n shit. I decided not to dive, but hire a moto and check out this island the way the good lord intended. After doing some off road riding I found a nice little bit of road to get my 125cc honda airborne. These bikes can really take a pounding. I ended up going for a night dive which was awesome. I highly recommend.
Day 5 Did my first deep dive (below 18 metres) today. We only hit 29.6metres - I was really after 30. Nitrogen didn't fuck me up like expected, so it's cool to go deeper. Got to hang out with a shark for a few minutes. Good times, good times. Managed to lose my instructor on a nav dive(second dive for the day). I was with my buddy so we searched for a bit, but had to surface. Instructor was stressed a bit, but all worked out. Day 6 Today I did my final 2 dives to complete Advanced Open Water. We did a buoyancy skills dive and a photography dive. Diving rocks, I think I could go pro. The weather is crap now, so I'm headed back to Bangkok on the night boat tonight.
