Finally I got to sleep last night - I guess I had more jet lag than I'd realized with only 2-3 hours sleep on average prior to last night. I slept a good solid 7 hrs., woke up refreshed and ready to take on the days challenges...by the way I've given up on ever finding my bag. Mrs Golchha who is the Director of the school (Eurokids) and a member of the richest family in Biratnagar is putting someone on it to find it. If she cant help I don't think anyone can.
Okay, so I awoke at 7am, showered and got a ride to the college (Euro-College) to meet the teachers. I was also asked to teach English to one class there. Then after tea I rode to the Eurokids school where I was once again introduced to the teachers, some of the kids and I did my best to interrupt classes with my style of humor. Some kids understood and some didn't - I'll have to work on those kids that didn't :-)
I met the Director Mrs Golchha and she asked me if I'd teach ICT (Technology) and English
I eat lunch in the dining area with the teachers and the kids and instead of getting thinner here I may gain weight because they keep putting more food out when I finish one thing. Since I love all Asian food and they serve all kinds (Chinese, Thai, Nepali, Bhutanese, etc, etc) at lunch and all at once its like a feast at lunch. They asked me if it was too spicy hot which I chuckled and said I thought I could handle it. I've died and gone to lunchroom heaven.
I was given a choice of 2 places to stay - hostel near some of the boys or an apt and I chose the hostel and if I don't like it they will find me an apt. I will have a computer with internet access, they are providing me with a cellphone and a bicycle for getting around. Lunches are free and they do a "snack" after school for the afterschool program. Today it was a huge bowl of Ramen / Nepali noodles and mango juice.
I have photos to share but not of the kids and school, that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Today's are of my flight on the 18 seater, the Himalayas from the air, rickshaw heaven and other forms of transportation here in Biranatgar and some little girls dancing at small culture fest that was occuring on my way home via rickshaw. A few other assorted pics too.
Wow I heard about all the rain and heat in the U.S. - its about the same here but not so much rain or as hot just the humidity. I was also told that it doesn't get that cold here about like SoCalifornia in the winter.
Enough foir now and I hope you enjoy the pics especially one - you'll understand when you see it.

Gurkha and me
. I will be teaching ICT to 2nd grade thru 8th, and English to 6, 7 ,8th grades - no I've never taught ESL but I guess I'll have to learn. I also asked to start a school newspaper which she is ecstatic about. Glad you arrived
Glad to see you arrived safely. I have enjoyed reading about your adventures to date. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your missing bag will appear. I love the pictures, definately looking forward to seeing and reading more. So if the doorways are that short- how are the beds or are you on a mat on the floor? Do you have certain curriculum to follow with your teachings or can you create anything you like? How does the technology compare to what we have here? Looking forward to your next posting. Take care.
Sleeping with young boys??
Michael Jackson ... Catholic priests... Mark, this sounds like trouble brewing ... ok, your call, but ... take the apt my dear!!(just giving you sh*#)
MJ and Father Comeherelittleboy
I know it sounds weird but Mrs Golchha would like me to help with their moral upbringing and who better than me to do that?
Re: Glad you arrived
I am in a bed and at present my feet hang over the edge. This was my first day but I believe I have a curriculum but I think I can teach however I want but gotta complete certain things. I'll know more in the coming weeks. Techno is fairly close
Ya Just Gotta Laugh!
M, This whole blog and subsequent comments kept me laughing. Lunchroom heaven, moral upbringing, feet hanging over the edge of your bed, different height doors... what else? Love those third world countries! You are going to have the most amazing year! ~C

When you going to get a hooker to look after your laundry?

believe it or not, 'he' cums with the job ... just one of the perks of life among nepalese boys.
Pied Piper of Biratnagar
Cuz,
Did you seriously expect to teach in Biratnager, Nepal and have a curriculum?
Did you seriously expect to go to Biratnager, Nepal and have your bags actually arrive with you?
It sounds like your 3 most important needs are being met...food, food and food. Make them some of your terrific Taubouli.
It's so dry in Cincinnati that a bird pooped on my car, and for a second I got excited because I thought it was raining!
I love reading about your adventures!
Love,
Brenda
Re: Sleeping with young boys??
Young men worried? Perhaps, only after Mark has all the young women as a part of his harem and the young men there are out of luck.
Re: Re: Sleeping with young boys??
Touche' Teresa, you and I know the same Mark. What is it they say, 'you can take the man out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the man?!'
back in your comfort zone, .... kinda

Again, enjoying the updates and pics. The technology classes and student newspaper should be familiar. English... you'll do fine...
