My arrival in town really set the toine for my time here. Having jumped on a bus in Nis on the understanding that it took about 3 hours to get to Belgrade, I was a little surprised when it took 4 and deposited me at the bus station at 10 at night. Im glad I knew my way around the city, as it might have been a little intimidating being dropped in that part of town at that time of night without any clue as to where to go. As it was, I had no accomodation booked and only a couple of addresses, not the best state to be in on a friday night in a place reknowned as a party city. Luckily I didnt have to sleep in the park, as the kind people at the rather fantastic Star Hostel pulled out a mattress for me, despite being full
The first two days in the hostel, I barely left during daylight hours (once because it was the first rain I had seen in months, the other because I was badly hungover) and didnt get to bed until 4 at the earliest. The third evening, not feeling in the best state, I intended to have a quiet one. This lasted until approximately 5 in the evening, at which point Chris, a friend I had met in Albania turned up. Having very little willpower, we went for a few drinks. Then a few more. Then bought some more anmd sat around at the hostel drinking. It was daylight before I got to bed.
My last day here was a quiet one, sat around in parks not really doing much but letting my liver recover slightly. I hadnt realised before, what with it being winter and all, but Belgrade is actually quite a green and pleasant city in which to waste a day lying around in the sun. Or sitting in a cafe admiring the views ;) Anyone that has been to Belgrade will know what Im talking about here.
Fun as it was, I couldnt spend much more time here for fear of becoming an alcoholic, so ever onwards I moved.
