After a brief stay in Munich, notable only for the meeting with a very scary German guy who looked like the end product of some eugenics program, was convinced of his own brilliance, sincerely believed that man should have dominion over the animals, and rapped in German for us, I turned up in Nurnberg. Intending to visit a couple of friends, it turned out they were out of town for a couple of days, so I was forced to return to the Lette'm Sleep hostel. Not so much of a hardship, as this hostel is one of my favourite in Europe (having stayed here for a couple of days last summer), and Nurnberg is quite a nice town as well. However, I didn't get out into town much this time, what with it being a bit grey and miserable. Instead, I realised one of my finest inconsequential and insignificant achievements yet - I spent a grand total of 20 hours in the hostel lounge, with only one break to get some more beer :) It's amazing what good company and a decent lounge can do to you.

Intending to leave for Prague on the thursday, I met my friends on the way to the Rock im Park festival (www.rock-im-park.com), and having seen the line-up, decided it would be silly not to join them. I managed to get a ticket from someone at selling at the gate (for about 20 euro less than people had paid over two months ago, couldn't complain), so spent the next couple of days partying with a whole group of people I barely knew, and listening to a bizzare range of music. Needless to say, much drinking was involved. German rock fans :)
The absolute highlites for me were Depeche mode - they put on an amazing show, all shifting screens and weird visuals - and seeing Goldfrapp, one of my favourite bands, on a tiny stage, with only a couple of hundred in the audiance, but all really enjoying it. Also, jumping around (in a mildly intoxicated state) near the front of the crowd as Korn were playing was fun. Couldn't make out much of their show, just tried to stay on my feet most of the time. Not as easy as it sounds. Just to rub it in for those of you that weren't there, I saw: The Kaiser Chiefs, Sportfreund Stiller, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Phoenix, Stone Sour, Alice in Chains, the Deftones, Korn, Tool, Raemonn, Metallica and Angels and Airwaves. Most were damn good, others not so great, but it wasn't a bad way to spend the weekend, all things considered. I even have a hardcore rock injury! Well, sort of. Some drunk guy fell onto me (through the tent) when I was asleep, so I now have a cut just above my left eye. So not really that hardcore. A bit pathetic, really.

I love having no commitments and nowhere that I have to be :)
