The town (not even pretending to be a city) of Echternach served as my departure point for a little hike around the country. Set in the Mullerthal region on the border with Germany, the walking around here wasn't of the breathtaking, spectacular type as Krkonose, but more achingly pretty, and not too strenuous either. It struck me as being quite similar to some areas of Somerset, which is a good thing. The Gorge du Loup walk in particular was quite stunning. Mostly large sandstone formations set amidst light deciduous forest, the wonderfully maintained paths (I didn't lose the paths once!)were blessedly cool to walk along on as scorching hot day, with some fantastic views thrown in for good measure. The 15km walk gave me plenty of time to amble and daydream a litle, and realise how good it feels to be out and moving again, instead of killing time, as I had been feeling a bit in Prague.
