Ok, so since yesterday things have improved dramatically!
Having written on here, which I think helped get my head straight a bit, I went for a wander around Chiang Mai before deciding that I had to do whatever it took to get me out of the rut. So I went back to the dive of a guest house, took my stuff and left. Within half an hour of walking I was booked into a gorgeous guest house with internet, a swimming pool and trek booking agency. After having a swim I felt much better to be here. So I went down and spoke to Om, a really funny happy Thai woman about what I could do for the next few days. Now, I realise that her job is to sell me tours etc. But she didn't try and make me go for the most expensive ones and helped me plan out my next week or so. So today is a chillout day, then tomorrow I'm doing a Thai cookery course (!), then on Thursday I'm going on a two day/one night trek to visit a hilltribe, do some bamboo rafting and white water rafting. I think we might see some elephants as well.
Anyway last night I was at a bit of a loose end, so I ended up doing what I said and going to watch some Thai Kickboxing! I've got some photos but they're not great because of the lighting. During the interval there was a very dodgy ladyboy show where they mimed to songs and just moved around the ring a bit. I've got some dodgy photos of that too! The age ranges of the fighters was about 8 or 9 to about 25. The finale was an English vs Thai fight, which was comical as the Thai guy clearly had never done it before and was there to make sure the English guy won! So everything has turned out for the best. I think I will be in and around Chiang Mai for about a week, then I will make my way towards the border and into Laos.
Take care everyone, I'll update again soon! Chris xx More thumbnails ...
