We could get used to holidays. Gavin may have to if Kevin 07 and his team make good on his election promise to sack him. But we'll see...
Woke to a few SMS informing us of the election result. Nothing like an election to bring friends together.
After breakfast we headed over to the WOW - Wonderful world of wearable art and collectible cars museum. At first the kids loved the wearable art, but when we wanted to look at the items in depth, that soon became tiring. The cars weren't much better, and we only had a slight reprieve when it was discovered that one of the vehicles could be entered. The amusement of this lasted only a little while (for the parents) as we tried to ensure that the kids 'respected' the car as they sat in it and climbed all over its interior. As we weren't sure what respect meant in this context, the kids were ordered out and Mckayla decided to emulate one of the exhibits WOW
WOW
.
Once outside, we decided it was time to head on over to Westport, largely because the other things we'd planned for Nelson were on weekend hiatus until Tuesday. I must say though that if we'd have had more time, we'd have liked to explore Nelson in a little more depth. You win some, you lose some.
In Murchison, the kids decided it was time for lunch, so we stopped at a Takeaways. We're not sure what the penchant for pluralisation is about, but we only wanted to take food away from the shop once, not multiple times.
From Murchison, it was only a short hop, skip and jump to Westport, past (so the brochure said) the most photographed stretch of road in NZ. Unfortunately, we neglected to take a photo of the bitumen, but I can attest to its unique stickiness and smooth texture on the blue metal road base. Apparently, it isn't the road surface that's being photographed, but the rock cutting, which is above it. It was pretty impressive, but we were so scared that we wouldn't get the hotel through that section that the camera didn't come out.
In Westport, we did the main drag cruise, to discover that nothing is open on a Sunday afternoon, and then progressed to the caravan park. Thus ended a most energetic day in the life of the Bowman family.
