Today we decided to quickly drive through Tauranga CBD and head over to Mount Maunganui, for a walk around the headland. Today was a day when Yasmin insisted on riding in the backpack - Gavin's back wasn't happy - and Mckayla decided to play up in the stroller and tip herself over. But she didn't graze herself, instead creating for herself the desired justification for saying 'eh' every five seconds around the 45 minute walk.
Once complete, we spent five minutes or so on te beach making sand castles, and then over to Memorial Park in Tauranga, where we played on the slippery dip and had lunch in the hotel overlooking the water.
Of course, Yasmin didn't want to stay for lunch, and decided that it would be a good idea to run back over to the play equipment by herself. As it is really difficult to get out of the table once in, we weren't able to stop her in time and she ended up crossing the road by herself and disappearing into the crowd of kids playing Self portrait at Mt Maunganui

. Mckayla was most miffed that she hadn't thought of doing the same thing when she missed out on her five seconds of play time. We neglected to remind her that we strap her into anything we can, but have been giving Yasmin more latitude as she hasn't been prone to running off on her own. Maybe that will have to change from now on.
We were heading over to Thames on Coromandel , and had to pass through Paeroa, so we thought we'd stop in at the 'World Famous in NZ' Cafe, which seems to be the official L&P eatery. It was incredibly disappointing, as we'd been informed you could get L&P flavoured meals, and the only thing on the menu that was L&P flavoured was L&P, and people didn't seem to be having much of that anyway. I actually embellished a bit there. You could also get L&P flavoured milkshake and banana split. But the opportunities are endless, and it was a complete gyp (in my humble opinion).
From here it was a short trip to Thames, where we bedded down for the night, ready for the full-on assault of the Coromandel Peninsula.
