Today we saw some impressive glass blown structures (small, but impressive structures nonetheless), followed by a trip to the only geothermically heated prawn farm in the Southern Hemisphere. They let us feed baby prawns by hand (they feel like cockroaches crawling on your skin) and Huka river trout (who were too far away to feel) and pose for photos as prawns.
Shawn the Prawn showed us around, and we were even allowed to 'fish' for our own prawns, using little hooks and pieces of meat. The promise was that the restaurant would cook whatever we caught and we could eat it for free.
We caught nothing.
But we still ate at the restaurant. Apparently, the wind and cold air made the prawns (who live in 28°C water) dive to greater depths. Well, that's what they tell the tourists anyway.
After that, it was a short drive to Rotorua and a look at some boiling mud etc. We had dinner at Kuirau Park in front of some bubbling mud. It didn't put us off our tea.
Back at the campsite, we had a dip in a thermal pool, which is always fun.
