I couldn't believe I was back in the City where a 8 months ago, after a 6000 km, road trip across the 'Silk road', I'd sold my new motorbike for peanuts to a local guy, and here I was again wishing I'd kept hold of it.
David, my internet friend stated 'Is easy', referring to getting into Tibet. Everything 'was easy', according to him! It certainly wasn't. After he contacted many travel agents on my behalf, we resulted using an 'illegal tour agent', on the sixth floor of an an office building behind whose locked door, money changed hands, and my trip was arranged.
I was to enter Tibet after 'they' arranged everything in 10 days time. meanwhile, I relaxed in David's small impoverished apartment and visited the scenes of Lanzhou. Most that were not a pretty sight!, this city was economically very poor, heavily industralised and one of the most polluted I'd experienced in all my years of travel in China. The rivers were black and disgusting, the sky filled with ' yellow sandstorms' common to this area!
Counting down the days before I left only filled me with glee!
