I'd left China less than a year ago, after several trips, jobs and a relationship that had failed. My life at that point seemed to include more turns than an alpine road. It had long since been my dream to visit Tibet, so having landed on the 13th may, I set about visiting travel agents to try and organise a 90 day trip to Tibet. I visited over 6 travel agents, none that actually helped me. My frustrations resulted in me simply buying a flight to Lanzhou, where I took my bags and boxed mountain bike in the hope I could make my way west from there. At the airport I met a then stranger from the internet, David who became a friend and succeed in arranging a train ticket, hotels and a 'permit' into Tibet. After 10 days of trying get into Tibet, the seemingly impossible, became a reality!
