July 6th
4:30pm - hurrıed to Princess Auto for ear plugs.
4:45pm - late for our 4:30 pick-up. (Thank-you Cor and Herma!)
5:00pm - on the road to Calgary.
6:15pm - arrive at the airport.
10:15pm - our 9:15 flight takes off. (Yes, the first delay in this opening travel day).
July 7th
6:15am - arrive in Heathro.
10:15am - we are SUPPOSED to be boarding the plane to Istanbul.
4:00pm - this is the actual time we boarded the plane.
4:15pm - we are told that there was such a long delay due to stormy weather.
4:16pm - we are told there will be further delay as there was a security breach in our terminal (Termınal 5), due to a lady with a sword/knife. There was a lockdown in the airport at that time, and half of us were ON the plane, while the other half were locked inside the airport.
4:17pm - we are told there will be further delay due to the fact that all flights were backed up (do you know HOW many flights leave Heathro each day???? LOTS!!!!) All flights were delayed and were only now beginning to take off, so there was an hour and a half wait on the tarmac.
4:18pm - Trevor and Dana try to stifle a groan as their knees are pressed into the seats infront of them, and they are in for a long wait before they even start moving.
5:00pm - we begin to move! YIPPEE! Our connecting flight to Istanbul has begun.
9:00pm - we arrive in Istanbul. Ti-yerd! (very tired). It is actually 5:00am in Turkey - so we had to wait at the airport for an hour until the train system opened at six.
10:00pm (Alberta time remember) - we are on the train system and heading for our hostel.
10:55pm - We are writing this from our hostel computers! WE MADE IT! We are a wee bit tıred though - and are greatly looking forward to a shower and some food. 30 hours was not in the original plans, but all is well!
We shall try to get some pictures today and send them on.
