Well we blew into Lincoln City about 5pm, although we had planned to arrive around noon. One of our missions was to find the hotel Mom and Peter had stayed in years earlier for their anniversary. She didn't recall the name but had an idea it was near the Inn at Spanish Head. We drove along and as the highway started to wind up past town she began to recognize the area. As soon as we passed the Ester Lee Hotel she knew it was the one. It took a few minutes to turn the car around, and as we pulled into another street we noticed a home that had a castle like appearance. True to our adventurous natures, we detoured to check this out and ended up in an area of opulent homes perched on a hillside overlooking yet another spectacular view. At the end of this road was a pull off spot, so we stopped to look at the ocean below where seals and birds were sunning themselves on a small island. Also here was another car full of ladies, so we all introduced ourselves and took each others group pictures. One of the ladies mentioned that the best milkshakes in town were just around the corner at Eleanor’s shop and that we should go there while in town. In fact Eleanor was her mother and she just happened to be sitting in the car as well. Her husband was running the shop today and we were to mention their names.

Although none of us were the least bit hungry we now had to go to find Eleanor’s Undertow ice cream shop. It was in the Taft district at Silitz Bay and was a bright pink shop with a mermaid gracing the front entrance! Dawn and Margaret had a milkshake while Mom and Deanna opted for the cobblers. The marionberry cobbler was unusual and delicious; moms peach was just as yummy. Milkshakes were also reported as excellent, but filling. Maps of Lincoln City were available for purchase as well in the shop, mom wanted to buy one but the owner insisted she take one and would not charge her for it.  Our next stop was the outlet stores for more deals on stuff we needed as soon as we saw it, then the liquor store for supplies. As we headed out of Lincoln City the sun was started to go down. We desperately wanted to see a sunset over the beach so watched for a place to pull in for viewing. This is probably the only time we couldn’t quickly find a place to see the ocean, but eventually saw the new Chinook Winds Casino on the ocean. The sun was just setting but it wasn’t overly spectacular at this point. We didn’t really find a good spot to park, but when we stopped behind the Casino, Dawn hopped out to take a picture. She headed into an unauthorized area and since the casino staff were watching her and about to apprehend her we called her back and moved along. Pretty sure she got a picture first though.

This time we headed back towards Seaside and decided to stay on 101 and not take any detours. It was 9pm when we passed the Tillamook Cheese factory, so that planned event was not going to happen. Problem was, bricks of Tillamook cheese had been promised to family back home but eventually we realized that Safeway probably would have it and we could just stop there. All the way back we had a familiar feeling as we passed through some of the small towns, in fact Mom recognized quite a few that we hadn’t actually been through earlier.

It definitely didn’t take as long to get back to Seaside on the return trip, with only one bathroom stop in Garibaldi. It had the cleanest outdoor restroom of the whole trip. We didn’t really have dinner but nibbled on salt water taffy and other snacks we had in the car.

We got back to Seaside about 10pm and drinks were enjoyed all around once we were back at our room.  Awesome day!
