We somehow missed Oceanside so our next stop was at Netarts Bay for a quick picture of the back of 3 arch rocks, then on the road again to Cape Lookout
. We stopped again at Andersons View for more pictures as it seemed every corner brought new incredibly beautiful sights. There we ran into a lovely couple of young fellows who took a group picture of us as requested and then waited not so patiently for us to leave so they could resume their admiration of themselves in that beautiful setting.
Our detour continued and we came to Sand Lake. Although we had all expected a lovely sandy beach around a lake we hadn’t realized that the whole lake was sand – no water to be seen. A couple dune buggies were tearing up and down the hills though and some campers had a primo spot lakefront all by themselves.
Tillamook and the cheese factory was a planned stop but we decided to catch it on the return trip later that day. Of course now everyone else is getting hungry but De wasn't as she ate a bun in the car when nobody else wanted to stop. Besides there isn’t anywhere to stop and eat at this point so we drive on to the Three Capes Route. This was a small scenic detour of 30-40 miles that went around to Cape Meares lighthouse. It took awhile to get there and after all the bumps in the road we were pretty happy to arrive and park the car. There was a steep walk down to the lighthouse itself but it was very interesting and we could even go inside and see the workings of it. We enjoyed the sweeping views of the ocean, rock formations (3 Arch Rocks) and even saw whales spouting in the distance.
