Bahrain is a tiny island nation in the middle of the Persian Gulf, with Iran on one side and with a causway to Saudi Arabia on the other. It is also the home to Riyadh's (the capital of Saudi Arabia) closest movie theatre, a mere 520 kms away (300 miles). So this is where the Saudi's and the Iranians come to play! (But there is no booze). Today it is only 41 degrees, which seems cool after Dubai. This is the sandiest place I have ever seen, with the square tan buildings rising out of the earth and reflecting the sun downwards to the street. The people are friendly, but do not see too many westerners, so the English is not that clear. The USA has a naval base on the tip of the island (although you can not go near it of course) so every now and then a fighter jet streaks over the city heading for Iraq, just a short way up the Persian Gulf from here...
