A 2 hour jeep ride took us from the plains, to 6000ft elevation.  The narrow switchback roads were steep, and nail biting.  We pleasently arrived to cool weather in one of India's well known region for tea, Darjeeling.

We spent four days in Darjeeling.  The first day we awoke at 3:30 in the morning in hopes to see sunrise from Tiger Hill and the worlds 3rd highest peak, and India's 1st highest Mt. Kangchenjuga at 28,169 ft.  We got to Tiger Hill at sunrise, however the clouds obscured our view, and we enjoyed the sight of hundreds of Indian tourists, scrambling around and just excited to say they have been to Tiger Hill.  From the hill we stopped at a few monastries were we were able to catch some chanting.

The rest of our time in Darjeeling we spent wandering the steep, snaking streets.  We went to the zoo, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Observatory Hill (a hindu and buhhdist temple), arranging a travel permit to the area of sikkim, and of course drinking a lot of tea.
