back to hanoi, with the intention of getting a bus ticket to take a 'advertised' 17 hour bus ride to vientianne, loas.  in our research on what company to book with, we read horror stories of this bus ride.  busese averaging 24 hours before arrival, people not having seats and having to sit in ailseways, people sitting on top of busses, food being transported along with passengers, illegal items confiscated over border crossings..(i could go on and on)..

it took us about and hour to decide that we just weren't up for this trip.  so we booked a ticket to bangkok for 5 days later, and decided that we would go to laos on our next trip.  our bodies and minds were needing to stay put in one spot for a few weeks.

unbeknownst to us, after we booked the tickets, we discovered it was the begining of a 5 day holiday.  the longest of all the vietnamese holidays.  when deciding on what to do in the next 5 days it was obvoius that we coulnd't stay in hanoi.....we knew that going to sapa (a hilltribe town in the mountains) was our best option.

we ended up booking a train ticket to sapa (hilltribe town), through our guesthouse.  we payed way to much for the tickets because of the holiday, and got tickets that we weren't agreed to, but upon arrival in sapa, all frustrations vanished.  it was the perfect place to end our trip in vietnam.
