a relatively short ride downhill brought us to the beach town of nha trang. nha trang is known for its beaches and the many islands nearby. it is one of the few areas around vietnam where there is good snorkeling and diving due to limited dynamite fishing in the past. we relaxed our first afternoon on the beach and then we took a tour the second day. on a boat with a diverse crew, vietnamese people, russian, israelis...they took us a few islands where we snorkelled, played volleyball, lounged, and were entertained by the boat staff's makeshift rock-and-roll band. there was some dancing on tables (see photos), boygirl performances, and some really really bad wine accompanying the event. it was good fun. we also got to visit an aquarium which although somewhat primitive by western standards had a collection. interacting with sea turtles was a hi-lite. we left nha trang the next day on our way to hoi an.
