we island hopped on a two hour boat ride north, to koh tao. a smaller island, which meant a denser population of tourists. we rented bicylces for a few days, and litterally rode up and over the island on a rutted out road. the destination was the best snorkelling yet, and virtually no tourists, tanote bay. there was tons of coral, swimming with fish and crystal clear waters. it was a killer bike ride, but rewarding in the end. then we watched the sunset and played ping pong at the amsterdam coffeehouse. we had a late dinner, one of the few non thai meals at a place called thaitalia. its run by some expats from italy. the pasta was home made and then they set us up with our first desert in a few weeks. it consisted of creme brulee, italian chocolate cake, coconut custard, fried pineapples, banana, and mango, and of course ice cream. price tag? $2.50 wow!. while we digested we helped a german guy and his friends celebrate his 30th by lighting and launching 30 lucky balloons. lucky ballons are rice paper bags with flames that float a few thousand feet into the night sky after being lit. more snorkeling and bike riding/carrying the next day. the next morning we were on a boat for the mainland...
