on feb 16th, we left hawaii for hong kong. the flight(s) weren't too bad but we lost half a day and ate 6 airline meals. after about 13 hours on the plane and three flights we arrived in hong kong.
we got in around 11pm local time to hong kong's new and very modern airport. boarded a sleek train and 20 minutes later we were in the heart of hong kong(blade runneresque) and in the middle of a few hundred thousand people celebrating the chinese new year.
we got to experience the chinese lunar new year in full effect. massive amounts of people on the streets, everywhere, nycish for sure. it is the biggest holiday in china (and most parts of asia). we caught a epic parade that was very international in nature.
the next day we saw cloud covered fireworks at the harbour. we spent most of our four days walking the streets and riding the subway (which by the way is the cleanest subway either of us had ever seen, it even had free internet stations), travelling to nearby islands
hilites besides the new years celebrations included the free arboretum/zoo/aviary(closed due to bird flu), a hike on a nearby island(complete with new wind power generator), and walking the streets with a half a million partiers.
4 days later we are on our way to the airport and bangkok! thailand here we come...
