As for the Rat, he got his wish and ended up next to a lovely lady. However she had child in tow, and a rather noisy little child he was too. Another one of his habits was to drink strawberry milkshake and then throw it all up. Nice! I got about 10 hours sleep, and rat about 3. But as for the bus, it was amazing - loads of food and drinks, great seats, and we didnt have to leave the bus to do our border crossing - in fact we could have slept through it. Amazing!
Then we arrived at Florianopolis Town, no International ATMs about, so wanderede around until HSBC came to our rescue
And so a local bus journey later we arrived at the Argentinian resort town of Canasveiras. Staying at the HI where they speak no English, so just about got settled in with my dodgy Espanol. Real problem over here, we feel like right numptys, everything is a trauma, even getting a MaccyDs. Lucky that they speak Spanish here though or we'd be totally screwed!
Did see Coupling on TV for the umpteenth time - by far the most popular British telly program we've seen in S America, and yet back home it only makes BBC2. We like it though.
Rat isn't a fan of S American resort destinations, and in many ways I;d go along with him. Its very built up here, not exactly island paradise. In many ways its like the Algarve, but the beach here is way inferior to the one in Praie de Rocha. The beach here is a very narrow strip of sand, to walk anywhere you have to get your feet wet, as no beach left unoccupied. We ended up on the grass bank above the beach as so hard to get a spot. But the sea's warm, I enjoy it. Rat thinks its dirty. Some of the other 40ish beaches are supposed to be far better, but we failed to leave the area due to general laziness
One day we went to meet our Argentinian frioend Andrea who we met in Patagonia. We turned up a bit late and despite waiting an hour at the pier we never saw her. However two days later we finally caught up, when she arrived at our hostel! Unfortunately we didnt go out anywhere as by now it was our last day.
Nightlife here is limited but good. Went to a club after a few drinks indoors, was much fun, and lots of partying Argentinians. However, we had one too many Capriohanas (the cocktail they have over here - omnipresent and very cheap) and I ended up getting thrown out, I think I was innocent of any drunkeness, but never mind!
Lots of family entertainment here, one of whom dressed in blue and white and got ready in our hostel. He fits in with all the jesters, jugglers, cat in bag hitters and snake men. The crowds seem to love watching it, but we preffered the bars.
This place has a distressing amount of birds in dental floss, very harrasing for a poor little rat and moth. I think they should be banned.
Instead of Tenedor Libre its Pizza Libre over here. Really good, similar concept - big ol help yourself buffet with salad, pasta, meat etc, but this time they come over with slices of pizza every few minutes. Its truly immense!
