Cameron highlands are a former British hill station, with climate to match.. First rain we've seen in ages! But thankfully a much cooler climate than the lowlands. Popular with Malaysian holidaymakers, so it was lucky we booked as our hostel (Daniels Lodge) had no rooms left by the end of the day..
Nice place to chill out, hostel is nice and clean and hot showers are a blessing as its only 22 degrees... Loads of free movies to watch, cheap bar (they even let us buy booze from the offy and drink it there), free use of local phone - all good..
After another decent banana leaf curry (had a menu though, how boring!) we sat around a camp fire with other guests and the owners. It was really nice, met loads of other peeps from US, Germany, Sweden, Spain & UK. It was one of the Americans 30th birthday, so the guitar came out for a bit of a sing-song!!
Next day we went for a hilly walk, it was wonderful to hike in the cool air, but I still managed to get a major sweat on! Probably the result of Rat selecting a route to be attempted "only by the very fit".... It was a bit like a walk in an English woodland - mossy floors, decidious trees, flowers etc - a fair bit different from the rainforests!! Further signs of disagreement in our ranks appeared when we opted for different routes at one point - 15 minutes later they connected though, and my route was quickest.... A pleasant walk.
Dinner that evening consisted of a Steamboat... Had to boil up various foodstuffs in a soup - it was a fun way to eat, and is popular with the Chinese who use it to help bond people. Bit bland compared to those lushious curries though.... (or maybe it was just our cooking?)
An Israeli guy taught us and a yank how to play a card came called "Yanee" - I lost.
Last night we opted for a western meal, couldn't afford "Ye Olde Smokehouse", so went for some set meal at a bistro..
Been nice here but its all a bit odd, miss the hustle and bustle of a "real" Malaysian city...
Next day was a fairly shambolic tour of the local farm estates. They forgot to pick us up, so we got there an hour late and missed out on the bee farm - But we did see strawberry, rose and cactus gardens - Then got stuck in a traffic jam as we went down a stupidly narrow, windy lane in our big ol' bus - Chaos!! Finally made it to the Boh Tea Plantation where we had Cream Teas. Jolly good show.
