I decided that I would have a peaceful couple of days (and therefore cheap!) in Bonito and spent most of my time on the first day sitting by the pool and reading my book! It was decided that we would have a girls night out while the boys stayed at the hostel so after dinner and a few cheeky drinks at the hostel we headed into town to frind a bar we could drink at.... we eventually found a reasonable looking place after a small hike from the hostel but we were the only ones out... there was no locals around at all!!! We decided to sit on the benches outside the bar in the hope of attracting anyone else out to the bar... it kind of worked as the boys turned up about an hour after us and then about 6 other people!!! A good night was had by all (as far as I know) and we even lost one of the boys until the following morning!!!
The next day a group of us decided to go to some rock pools not far from our hotel... the water was freezing but full of fish so most people braved the cold for at least a quick dip!
Another early start to head off to our next destination: Foz do Iguazu. Unfortunately for me I managed to leave my 2nd suitcase at the previous hostel as wasnīt used to having it off the bus! Too late to turn around so would have to get it forwarded to me... easier said than done as it turns out. We called the hostel as soon as we arrive in Foz and they said they would put it on a bus the following morning.
I called the hostel again in the morning and they confirmed by bag would be on a bus leaving at 9 and to call later to confirm what time the bus would arrive in Foz. Thinking my luggage was on itīs way to me I went to Iguazu Falls in the morning. These falls are taller and wider than Niagara falls with over 275 cascades! While wandering around the falls my friend Kim noticed that she had 2 fang holes in her ankle - we asked the local rangers if they could tell what had bitten her and they decided it was a spider about 12cm in length!!! Not too dangerous and should only cause a local reaction... although we managed to translate from the charts it can cause several nasty effects that they failed to mention! Luckily Km developed none of these although the bite didnīt look to healthy and took a while to heal!
We also visited a bird park where there were so many species of bird... there was one enclosure where you were surrounded by Macaws... one of them took a particular liking to my flip flops... luckily for me i recognised the intent of the bird as it tried to sidle nochalently towards me and I got out of the way... unfortunately a german tourist did not have as much luck and the macaw got hold of his flip flop and proceeded to try to bite holes in it!
Called hostel in Bonito to check what time the bus would arrive in Foz... was told that they hadnīt actually posted bag! Grrrrrr.... Was told it would be on bus following day but they needed my full name and passport number to post bag! Keeping my fingers crossed that they would actually post bag now I headed out for the evening...
We went to an all you can eat dinner and dance show and Iīm pretty sure everyone did their best to eat all they could... I controlled myself and only tried 4 different puddings!!! The dnce show consisted of a selection of dances from around the region and 2 of our group even got picked to go on stage! Once the show had finished we all piled into taxi-buses and headed to a club suggested by our tour leader as being excellent on a thursday night... it was closed!!! Nice one Ewen!!! We then drove back on ourselves to another club where it was much busier and even had a live act! Another great night in Brazil!
I spent the following day at the hostel trying to get Bonito to post my bag to me... the hostel manager in Foz was soo helpful and if it wasnīt for him I would not have got my bag back! We eventually had confirmation that my bag was on a bus that afternoon and should arrive the following day at noon. Only problem with this was that our group was leaving at 10am! Luckily for me however, it was only moving an hour away to the Argentinian side of the falls!
I eventually managed to get my bag at 2pm and got on a public bus to Argentina. The only problem with this was that the public bus only stops for you to get stamped into Argentina and not out of Brazil! As far as Brazil is concerned... Iīm still there and outstaying my visa! Will have to check what this means when I get back to London. I may have just made it so I canīt return to Brazil ever!!!
As youīve probably realised... Iīm a bit behind with this so another update coming now...
