Ok, we had just arrived in Cancun when I left you last.
We spent our first day on Isla Mujeres - a beautiful island off the coast of Cancun and our second day exploring the hotel district. I have to say that i'm not a fan of Cancun, much too touristy particularly compared to rest of Mexico! We met our new group over dinner and were ready to leave Cancun and Mexico behind.
We had one last stop in Mexico at Tulum - another ruins site by the sea - before crossing the border into Belize. Gooner was a little upset as he made friends with an Iguana at Tulum but she lost interest in him rather quickly!
Once in Belize we had to take a chicken bus (basically old US school bus painted a different colour) to Belize City as the bus had to go through more formalities than the people and would be there overnight. It actually wasn't bad on the chicken bus - probably because we took over pretty much the entire bus so only had 3 locals who were nowhere near our luggage! Once in Belize City it was just a short boat ride to Caye Caulker - a spectacular Island where we would be staying a few days.
Our first day we went on a snorkelling trip were we met some vegetarian sharks (fish are friends, not food) as soon as our boat stopped. We snorkelled pretty much all day and at our last stop saw a manatee swimming around beneath us! The next day was spent lazing around the island which was so nice and relaxing having been on the move for so long. We went to watch the sunset at the Lazy Lizard bar before heading to the local bars.
Reluctantly we left Caye Caulker and headed to the belize zoo to see some of the local wildlife that had been rescued over the years. From here we headed to San Ignacio to celebrate Kable's birthday. All was going well until several people where struck with Montezuma's Revenge - possibly from the chicken burritos that peope were eating at lunch! Luckily for me... I had avoided them as I don't like tortillas or refried beans!
The next day was Pip's birthday and unfortunately, a lot of people were still ill from the day before. Most people made it out for dinner but few stayed out.
That's it for Belize folks... more exciting news from Guatemala and Honduras to follow!
