When we arrived in Copenhagen there was a street party going on.  Have I mentioned how often forein cities seem to throw a party the minute we arrive.  They always seem surprisingly well-stocked with beer too....

We flew with Maersk air who don't include food in the cost of your ticket.  They'll sell you a sarnie, but they'll take your pants down for it, and so the finance fascists (aka husbands) of the party vetoed any purchases.  And then moaned about how hungry they were from the moment we got off the plain until we actually got to a restaurant.  That's a train journey, a short walk to the hotel, checking in (behind some idiots who appeared to be completely baffled by every aspect of the checking in process and had to have it explained to them slowly and often).   Then we fought our way through packed streets - with the boys hungry enough to complain when their way was blocked by some scantily-clad lovelys on a float 2. .  They sat down and then decided that actually, what they really wanted was a drink....

That did rather set the tone for the weekend, which comes back to me as a series of lengthy, well moistened meals interspersed with the odd museum, chuch and statue.  We went to the mermaid of course, because it would be rude not to, but my favourite of the many statues about the place was the Gefion Statue.  A marvellous rendition of some godess who had turned her four sons into oxen and used them to plough the earth.  Nice one.

Copenhagen also boasts Stroget - the longest (pedestrian) shopping street in Europe.  I'm pleased to report that we tackled this street from one end to the other, although all Ibought was some lingerie.  Sadly for me, I had recently had an operation on my foot and although I had got rid of the stick and stupid strap thing, I couldn't quite bend my big toe enough for heels and had to spend the weekend in "comfortable shoes".  Not conducive for the kind of shoe shopping that I like.  I love shoes, but feel that this is a topic that needs a separate entry of its own.

On the way back from the last bar, my friend Pip went into a chip frenzy.  He HAD to have some,.  We tried a number of venues, even a dodgy looking white van but they only had kebabs.  In the end we were forced to go to ... a certain fast-food chain ... one featuring cr-p food and famous for exploiting its staff (I hope that cuts it down for you).  Once chipped up, we formed a four man chain (to support the more innebriated of our party) and marched back to our hotel.

I was pleased and proud when those same individuals kicked off their beer consumption at 11.00 the next morning.
