watched the sunset on the Taj Mahal - the view from our rooftop patio was just okay. the smog in agra is horrible. it smells and hangs and is a bit smokey so it cuts the visibility.
met Miles from perth on the bus from Jaipur and had dinner and a nice chat with him. lots of tips for south america
got up to watch the "sunrise" but didnt see much because of the smog. not much sun... very disappointed but watched the monkeys on the rooftops instead.
walked to the west gate of the Taj to catch the "free" tourist bus to the Agra fort...waited and had a rough time with sellers, police and rickshaw drivers for about an hour before we said screw this and walked the 2kms to the fort. we were steaming mad. the driver of the bus basically didnt want to take us for free...there were 3 empty buses waiting to take people but they wouldnt move unless the bus was full. when we asked what time we were leaving we were told 5 minutes than 10 minutes than a half hour than even an hour!!! note to the Agra Development people - DO NOT offer a "free" tourist shuttle bus to foreigners than tell them they have to pay for a rickshaw!!! Such a poor welcome for some disgruntled tourists...
the fort was great and spectacular to see
had some more people want to take photos with us. one of them said "excuse me madame. May I take a snap capture with you?" HAHA
walked back to the hotel for a re-charge lunch before heading out to the Taj. When Anita's bag was searched she was told that Monita could not come in with us. we asked why - it is just a doll. we were told " oh no Dolls are the most dangerous. very dangerous. especially this kind!" haha couldnt believe it. so no photos of Monita with one of the 7 wonders....
the Taj is spectacular and we enjoyed walking and exploring all of it. the colours in the hazy afternoon sun was beautiful and we took a lot of photos with a lot of people - including several where mothers handed us their babies to hold!!! we have a hilarious "family" photo with anita and a whole group! so funny
also was interesting to see the "pollution" monitor outside the Taj. It said that the safe levels were 100 and that today's pollution level was at 703!!!!ridiculous! no wonder we cant breathe
we are leaving tonight on an overnight train to Varanasi...hope we will catch some zzzz's on this train!

so excited for sunrise!
. we were imagining ourselves as part of the 5000 women in the harem. and in the hall where the emperor would have spoken Monica imagined him looking out over all of his harem and shouting "was it as good for you as it was for me?"had some more people want to take photos with us. one of them said "excuse me madame.
