We just arrived back in from a 2 day trekking trip just north of Chiang Mai.
Day 1 started off by collecting our group (12 in all) and making our way north thru the hills and winding roads. We were very confused because we weren't told much by our driver and we were 12 people squished into a pick up truck (they had 2 benches in the back). We got to our first stop at the market to collect some supplies and then it was more driving! We weren't sure when the trekking would start!! So after lunch we met our guides and were told we were going to the highest point in Thailand to see the views and see the Stupas (monuments) erected in honour of the king and queen. Well since it was raining all day there was no view and it was 16 degrees!!!!! soo cold! The coldest we've been since we left vancouver!
after that we did an hour of trekking into our campsite for the night. Not too bad, a nice hut and a hot meal ready for us. We sat around the fire for a few hours and went to bed!
The next morning we were up kinda early and enjoyed playing with the fire more...after a slow start we did an hour of trekking to the closest hill tribe village and spent some time there, then another hour of walking to a beautiful waterfall. The afternoon we spent doing some more trekking, saw another waterfall and then got to ride an elephant and do some bamboo rafting.
Everything was interesting and lots of fun minus the seemingly constant rain! Everything was soaking wet and muddy. The sun came out for a few hours today but then it poured rain when we were on the elephant...oh well what else can you expect during the rainy season!!
