SABADEE
Arrived into CHILL out Laos after an overnight bus from Bangkok.
Vientiane is such a quiet, laid-back, french influenced city, which is proud to be the place where the SOLE ATM in Laos is. ( we made use) It is Lao's biggest city but has a small town feel.
We spent day 1 walking around the city, exploring and trying out Lao food (something pronounced larp which is a spicy meat dish normally raw but cooked for foreigners and a spicy papaya salad with sticky rice) . we also tried Lao Beer which is VERY good.
spent a rainy evening enjoying Lao beer and sitting by the river  under a tent while it rained.
In the morning we walked to the Patoxdi which is the Arc de Triomphe for Vientiane. Built by cement donated by the USA with the intentions of building a runway at the airport - hence the nickname vertical runway (or something like that). Climbed up to the top and had a good view of the city.
Visited the Morning Market and had a GREAT ice coffee...better than Timmy Ho's ... and tried little sweet dumpling things with small eggs in them. tasty. We enjoyed watching them make jewelery - very old fashioned and interesting.
Loved eating the baguettes in Vientiane - for about a dollar you get a HUGE fresh baguette with whatever you want on it...usually we get veggies and pickles and chili sauce with BBQ pork.
