One Night in Bangkok!!!
That's all we had and we made the most of it!! We arrived from the over night bus and had a whole day of site seeing ahead of us....but since we didn't get much sleep (an interesting ride at the back of the bus = not much sleep!!) We had a midnight stop for dinner and monica par-took in the local delicasy of dried pigs feet, although she didn't realise it until after the fact! (disgusting...it ruined my midnight dinner) We took a quick nap in the morning and then headed out into the city.
We rode all kinds of local transportation including boat, train, and monorail to see as much of the city as we could. We really enjoyed walking up and down Kao San Road did some shopping and ate at the food stalls along the way. Our barganing skills must have been well tuned because we got some great deals!! no one turned us away...so either we got ripped off or we are just that good now! ( I -monica- bargained for fun over one shirt and the lady gave me the deal! ooppss how to back out of that one...got a new shirt!)
Found a great park in the middle of the city and ran into some moniter lizards just chillin out
Next day we weren't sure WAT to do, so we decided that WAT we should do is try to see the Royal Palace and some of the WATs around town. Went to one WAT with the reclining Buddha - the last stage before Nirvana. Took the river boat to try to find another WAT cause the Palace was closed to visitors when we got there. WALKED AND WALKED trying to find this smiling Buddha....never found it but did see SO much. It was school's out time in a district where there are at least 4 schools all close together. Street Hawkers with EVERY kind of food imaginable are there selling to the kids for after school snacks... we tried some deep fried square things that seemed to be rice and greens and egg....tasty. We saw TONS of fish being fed in the river and in little buckets down the road.
We had big plans to do lots of people watching on Kao San Road...but as soon as we got there it started to pour ..and continued through out the night...so our people watching was cut short but we had a few drinks at a gas station....that was converted to a bar but nothing really altered except the tables and chairs at the pumps instead of cars....pretty cool. (thought the candles on the tables were a nice touch...if not a safety issue) Met a fellow Canadian who liked to discuss Quebec politics with other tourists....hmm...the yummy pancake following our beers at the gas station in the rain made a good night!
Breakfast, lunch and Dinner on our last day were all at different street hawkers - a yummy mango shake and yogurt and muesli for breakfast..red curry and pad thai for lunch and basil and cili chicken for dinner!! YUM!!! best tasty food...watched 3 little girls play a neat skipping game which had one of them jumping over a rope at the others shoulder height! impressive. We realised that a yellow golf shirt is the uniform here in Thailand...it goes with anything! Yellow is the color of the King and so everyone wears it to support him.
We really enjoyed our 2 days in the city just walking around and visiting the sites. Found out about Heather's engagement while here and talked about it a lot! Congrats Heather and Rob

. Also lots of people exercises,....we watched wishing we had the motivation to do the same!! We headed into the center of the city and came across this mega shopping mall...bigger then either of us had ever seen.We rode the monorail back to our guesthouse and were treated to the songs of Micheal Buble - on the subway!Next day we weren't sure WAT to do, so we decided that WAT we should do is try to see the Royal Palace and some of the WATs around town.
